Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
