Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While playing online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found playing online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
