Do you ever have that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the closest betting house, to discover a high stakes game of Hold em, to sit at a Black-jack table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I love to scratch it.
I also really like to watch people today bet. No 2 poker faces seem identical. When I bet I like to consider I put on a poker face that is impenetrable. But I know I have specific personal habits. For 1, the only time I smoke is when I play poker or Black jack. And then I chain smoke. But I smoke whether or not I am succeeding or losing, no matter whether I’ve a good hand or bad.
I once bet in a weekly poker game. The casino game was generally five card draw. There was a guy who wagered with us each week who generally wore a hat. When he was given a good hand, subconsciously, he would start touching and wagering with his hat. Pointless to say, he by no means won.
The greatest poker player I ever saw was a person who produced additional actions and signals at a poker table than anybody I had ever met. He was impressive in the way he dressed. Always an high-priced suit and tie, footwear shined and nails manicured. He was meticulous in this manner. And he was always brushing his pant leg or holding his hands or stacking his chips in tidy little piles.
I use to analyze him for hours. I would attempt to see if I could notice his tell. Choosing lint off his shirt- did this imply he was bluffing? Arranging his chips within a short pile – did this imply he had a beneficial hand?
Many years later I ran into him inside a bar in Chicago and we had a beer. I asked him if he have been aware of all those activities he created or if they had been unconscious. He informed me that every single single thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everyone is generally checking out everybody else’s poker face. They’re attempting to detect the the tell.
So his program was to give them lots to consider about. His reasoning was if they have been thinking about him picking a piece of fuzz off his vest and what it meant they certain weren’t thinking about their cards.
His system was distraction. And it worked for him. Never give up a system that operates for you.
