Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
