Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best bettors around the world. While participating in net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world may be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
