Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
